Check your CV
What is an ATS, and why does it matter?
Most medium and large employers use an applicant tracking system (ATS) to manage applications. Before a recruiter reads your CV, the ATS reads it: it pulls out your details and compares your skills with the words in the job advert. CVs that don't mention the skills the job asks for, or that the ATS can't read properly, are often ranked low and never seen.
How to improve your ATS score
- Use the job's own words for skills you genuinely have: if the advert says "stakeholder management", don't only write "working with stakeholders".
- Keep the layout simple: one column, no tables, text boxes or images, and contact details in the main page, not the header.
- Use standard headings: Summary, Skills, Experience and Education.
- Show results with numbers: "served 40 customers a day" says more than "served customers".
- Tailor your CV for each job. It's the single biggest difference, and it's what Trabo does for you automatically.
